Lebanon and Israel are edging closer to implementing a cease-fire amid reports that they have agreed on the terms of the agreement that would end their raging, 13-month war.

Israeli airstrikes are hitting Lebanon with airstrikes as negotiations progress toward a ceasefire between the country and Lebanon-based Hezbollah militants.

"We believe that the trajectory of this is going in a very positive direction," the National Security Council's John Kirby said.

A ceasefire deal between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah is “very close,” a regional source told CNN on Sunday, even as an uptick in Israeli attacks saw the death toll in Lebanon since mid-September pass a grim milestone.

The discussions the U.S. government had on the Lebanon-Israel ceasefire were positive and are headed in the right direction towards a deal, the White House said on Monday.
