Sony is reportedly working on a brand new portable console to build on the idea of its PlayStation Portal and compete with Nintendo in the handheld space, according to a report from Bloomberg.

Sony joins Microsoft in the race to develop a standalone portable console that would play games on the go like Nintendo's popular Switch console.

For the first time since 2012, Sony is developing a legitimate handheld device for playing PlayStation games, Bloomberg reports. There isn't much else to say about the device right now, as Bloomberg noted that it's most likely years away from launch — if Sony decides to follow through with launching it at all.
