A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is moving towards Sri Lanka, causing the Regional Meteorological Centre to forecast intense rainfall in Tamil Nadu’s coastal districts for five days starting November 26.

Intense rainfall, with isolated heavy spells, is expected over the next five days due to a system over the Bay of Bengal.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a red alert for the districts of Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, and Karaikal, predicting extremely heavy rainfall (over 20.4 cm) on Tuesday.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression in the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining East Equatorial Indian Ocean will turn into a deep depression in the next 24 hours.
