U.S. goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher has announced her retirement from international soccer, ending an 11-year career in which she won two World Cups and the Olympic gold medal.

Alyssa Naeher, a standout goalkeeper for the U.S. Women's National Team since 2014 and the team's starter since 2017, will retire from international play following the team's upcoming friendlies at England and the Netherlands, the USWNT announced Monday.

Naeher has been the starter for the USWNT since Hope Solo retired after the 2016 Olympics, in which Naeher backed up Solo after her debut in 2014. She was the starter for the the Women's World Cup championship team in 2019 and she started in goal during the United States' Olympic Gold medal run in Paris this summer .

Naeher is on the team’s roster for a pair of upcoming matches in Europe, but those games will be her last after 11 years playing for the United States.

Naeher will play her final games for the United States this month, with matches against England and the Netherlands.

Naeher is the latest U.S. standout to step away, following Carli Lloyd, Megan Rapinoe, Ali Krieger, Julie Ertz, Sam Mewis, Kelley O’Hara and Alex Morgan.
